My Experience
I'm currently working as a bookseller and freelancer, and I'm looking for a position in the publishing industry as an editorial assistant or marketing assistant.
Assistant Poetry Editor
I'm currently the assistant poetry editor at Redivider literary journal at Emerson College. We publish incredible, luminous poems that stick with their readers. I joined as a poetry reader in my first semester as a grad student and was quickly promoted to senior reader and then assistant editor based on my insights, consistency, and poetry editing experience. My responsibilities include managing the poetry submissions, assigning poems to readers, sending rejections, and deciding with the editor what should appear on the shortlist. I'm on track to be the Redivider poetry editor in fall 2023.
Copywriter
I'm currently writing freelance for Storyteller Media & Communications. Through the company, I write blogs for country club websites about their dining and amenities to foster interest in club membership. Many of the blog posts I've written are hosted on Rogue Valley Country Club's website. Though this experience, I've been learning more about balancing promotion and marketing with writing something people want to read.
Bookseller
I'm currently working as a bookseller at Barnes & Noble in Peabody, MA. I started as a temporary hire for the holidays in 2022 and was invited to stay on. My responsibilities include assisting customers, shelving, organizing the store, processing returns, and shortlisting books. This experience has provided me a front seat to see what readers are looking for and how they find it-- and what doesn't sell.
Copyeditor
I freelanced as a copyeditor for a self-publishing author in the winter of 2022 and spring of 2023. I checked the writer's sci-fi manuscript for grammar, punctuation, and consistency, and made small suggestions to improve flow and emotional impact of minor story beats. I also edited and factchecked the accompanying nonfiction appendix.

I also took a copyediting class with David Richwine at Emerson College during this time.

Photos I took for the Charis Instagram of the intern I worked with modeling college merch sold at the bookstore.
Social Media Intern
I interned with the oldest independent feminist bookstore in the South, Charis Books and More, in Decatur, GA in spring 2021. I worked with another intern to boost Charis's social media presence and create engaging content that would link the bookstore to our college across the street. I took the initiative to start an interview series with professors about their upcoming book releases and book events at the college as a way to connect the two literary worlds. I also launched and managed a temporary Discord server to get younger students interested in bookstore happenings. During my time there, I directly influenced an increase in follower count and community engagement.

After the conclusion of my internship, Charis Books and More (and their nonprofit arm, Charis Circle) invited me to be the student representative on their board. As a board member, I managed tech and emceed for Crowdcast events with touring authors including for Victoria Chang, Anjali Enjeti, and Jen Winston. I served on the board until my graduation in May 2022.
Archival Intern
I interned at EarlyWorks Family of Museums in Huntsville, AL in summer 2020. With another archival intern, I created a digital finding aid and accessioned every historical item in the museum collection. I also researched and factchecked educational videos for museum children's programs.
As an intern project, the other archival intern and I wrote and proposed a new museum exhibit centering Black lives in Civil-War-era Huntsville and strove to encourage leadership to examine the legacy of the museum.

Poetry and Playwriting Editor / Managing Editor
I worked on the leadership of Agnes Scott College's print literary journal Aurora and newspaper The Profile. I worked as the vice president and managing editor at the newspaper, where I supported ethical, smart, well-edited journalism. I worked as the secretary, poetry editor, and playwriting editor at the literary journal, where we worked as a team to create a consistent, sustainable journal model for generations to come.
My experience at Aurora informs much of my Redivider leadership; at Aurora, I managed readers and copyeditors, and communicated with poets about edits and decisions. I also drafted promotional copy, designed promotional event posters, and organized the print release event.
